A Dash to Indiana

(The Badlands in South Dakota)

I'm a bit behind on my blogging. Spending time with my husband always seems to win out over blogging, lol. That and almost 2,000 miles of driving in 4 days.

Shooo, we are wore out!

We traded in the Suburban for our new dually on Friday in Kellogg, ID. I'm really bummed to see the burb go, after all that driving in it I was pretty attached. It took my kids, the dog and I safely through 3,000 miles with out any fuss, I just thank God he provided us with a vehicle that was so dependable, comfy, and fit everything we would need along the way.

We're now driving a 3500 Dually. The front end is pretty ugly, but other than that, we love it. It's very roomy, made for towing a lot of weight, comes with specialized brakes and all sorts of other goodies. I'll have to do another post on it when I get some pictures of the cool storage in the back.

Anyway from Kellogg, Idaho we headed for Elkhart, Indiana to pick up the RV. On the way we stopped at Little Bighorn Battlefield, Mount Rushmore, and The Badlands, all in South Dakota. All very neat, but our favorite was definitely the Badlands, I'd love to come back and do some hiking and further exploring there.

The funny thing is South Dakota was experiencing extremely high winds the entire time, I say funny because I was constantly holding my dress down, and anytime we tried to get out of the truck the doors would either RIP open, or refuse to open without a lot of effort. We pretty much did our site seeing from the truck, but it worked fine for us because we were in a hurry to get to Indy anyway.

So we're finally here in Elkhart, and hoping to pick up the RV tomorrow. I will be soooo happy to just have a kitchen again. I'll post more when I have time, but mean while I'll leave some photo's of this trip. As always there's a lot more pictures on my flickr account if you'd like to see more.

Little Bighorn Battlefield, South Dakota

This is just a small part of the battlefield where General Custer and every last one of his men (210 in all) were defeated and killed while in battle with the Indians. There are both Indians and soldiers graves dotted in random places all over the battlefield. Most don't even have the names on their grave. It was very strange to be in a place where just under 200 years ago men were greedily trying to control the Indians who had been on the land long before anyone else, and willing to go so far to get their own way. It was chilling to think that men were scrambling all over this land in an effort to kill each other, that so much blood had been spilled here. Thank God we have Christ who saves us from our sins because people can sure do some despicable things.

I've never been to South Dakota, but really want to see the Badlands some day. Great photos!
